Alaskan Coastal Brown Bear

Alaskan Adventure Tours, Inc. begins hunting the huge Alaska Coastal Brown Bear each Spring the third week of April thru May 31st and September 1st through October for the Fall Season. Alaskan Adventure Tours hunts Unit 6A in the remote Southern Gulf Coast. This is one of the few areas left in the State of Alaska that has a large volume of brown bears that does not require drawing a lottery tag for the privilege to hunt. To hunt this area all you need is a Non-Resident Hunting License and a locking Brown Bear Tag. Your hunt will be conducted under Registered Brown Bear Guide Darren Byler Guide License Number 1151.

The Alaskan Southern Gulf Coast Brown Bear is the same breed as the Famed ‘Kodiak Bear’.  Unlike inland Grizzly Bears, the Alaskan Coastal Brown Bear has an incredibly high protein diet.  By gorging on the summer salmon runs, this allows the Alaskan Coastal Brown Bear to grow larger and have a much denser coat than the inland grizzlies.  The average coastal brown bear in our area is 8’9” and nine and the opportunity to harvest nine and ten-footers is very reasonable.

We are asked quite often what our success rate is.  Alaskan Adventure Tours offers a high opportunity rate to harvest an animal. What the hunter does with his or her opportunity becomes his or her “Success Rate”.

The Remote Southern Gulf Coast enjoys the reputation of having some of the largest Coastal Brown Bears in the World. Unlike inland bears, the Alaska Coastal Brown Bear has an incredibly high protein diet. Gorging on the summer salmon runs each year allows the Alaska Coastal Brown Bear to grow larger and have a much denser coat than inland Grizzlies.

Vessel based hunting provides an extremely high opportunity rate. Hunting from a the magnificent 110’ Motor Vessel the Alaskan Leader as base camp has its advantages and rewards. We will cruise the coastline looking for bears near the beach in one of our auxiliary vessels en route to the drop off point where you will spend the day in the field with your Guide where the bears are prevalent. Unlike being dropped off at a lodge, base camp or tent, we are not confined to the same area each day. It would take six months or more to cover the area from a camp that can be covered by a vessel based hunt with the assistance of four wheelers for a seven day trip.

This is a 1x1 fully guided hunt, with a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 hunters per trip. The guided brown bear hunts will be under the supervision of Registered Guide Darren Byler License #1151. We will take you to where the bears are. Generally they are not more than 1 mile from the beach. We will transport you to the beach with a 16-foot unsinkable Boston Whaler, the 25’ Mako or the 35' aluminum catamaran or another comparable skiff.

The Alaskan Leader will be anchored up in a calm, protected bay at all times. Groups and singles are welcome. You will be provided a warm bunk in a bunkroom or a private stateroom depending on availability. You are welcome to bring your wife or significant other along for the trip at a non-hunter rate. The trip includes lodging aboard the 110’ Motor Vessel Alaskan Leader or like vessel and all meals. You need only to bring: personal gear, rifle, ammunition, hunting license and bear tag.
